Tilt Table Test
Tilt Table Tests are done by St. Paul Heart Clinic electrophysiologists.
Before your tilt table test:
You will be asked to arrive in the morning on the day of the tilt table test. You are required to arrive 2-3 hours before your procedure start time.
You may be asked to have a pre-procedure physical done by your primary care physician (This should be completed 1-2 weeks before your procedure date).
You may be scheduled for an office visit to meet with an electrophysiology Nurse Clinician before your tilt table test. At this visit you will learn more about the procedure and view some pictures of the equipment used to perform the procedure. We will review the benefits of and discuss the risks associated with having the tilt table test. We will explain what to expect the day of the test and your recovery period. Be prepared to ask questions and share any concerns you may have. After discussing the risks and rationale of the tilt table test, you will be asked to sign a consent form (In some instances, this information may also be discussed by phone).
During this appointment you will be given further instructions:
- When to stop eating and drinking before the test
- What medications to stop before your test
- Medications to start before your procedure
- Arrival time and location for the tilt table test
- You will also be asked to bring a current list of your medications on the day of your test
After your tilt table test:
You will be discharged from the hospital about 1-2 hours after your tilt table test. It is not required that you have help in driving home from this test, but we do recommend that you arrange for assistance in driving home if at all possible. You will be informed of the test results prior to your discharge. You will also be given specific instructions regarding any new medications you may be starting and any follow up that is recommended by your physician. There are usually no activity restrictions following a tilt table test.
