Pulmonary Hypertension ClinicThe St. Paul Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic is a clinical collaboration of the St. Paul Heart Clinic and the St. Paul Lung Clinic. This clinic is exclusively dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term follow up of patients with pulmonary hypertension.
Pulmonary hypertension is a disease noted by an abnormal increase in the blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries. High pressure in the pulmonary arteries can lead to right heart failure with symptoms including shortness of breath and fainting and can even be fatal. Prognosis can be greatly improved by early detection and treatment with emphasis on specific treatment of the underlying cause of the elevated pulmonary artery pressure. Since most of the underlying illnesses that cause pulmonary hypertension are of cardiovascular or pulmonary origin, it is logical that a team of physicians and nurses with special expertise in cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases would provide the best possible diagnostic services and treatment for patients with pulmonary hypertension.
The St. Paul Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic consists of 2 cardiologists, 5 pulmonologists, 1 nurse practitioner, and 4 clinical nurse specialists. Weekly meetings are held to discuss all aspects of patient care. A service has also been established to provide round-the-clock availability of a physician to answer questions and provide advice to those patients under treatment. Since the founding of our Clinic in 2006, hundreds of patients have been evaluated and treated. Our Clinic has grown rapidly and currently treats and follows the second largest population of patients in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area that have pulmonary hypertension.
