PREVENTION CLINIC
The St. Paul Heart Clinic Prevention Clinic is intended for any adult with known coronary or vascular disease or patients who are at risk for the development of cardiovascular disease. Examples for Prevention Clinic referral may include patients with:
- Known coronary, cerebrovascular or peripheral vascular disease
- Strong family history of premature coronary artery disease
- Difficult to treat high blood pressure (hypertension)
- Complex dyslipidemias or intolerance to lipid-lowering therapy
- Obesity
- Metabolic syndrome
- Tobacco abuse
- Sub-clinical disease (abnormal calcium score)
- General cardiovascular risk assessment
The prevention team will manage patients until prespecified goals are met, and then send patients back to the primary or referring physician for ongoing health care maintenance.
At St. Paul Heart Clinic, the Prevention Clinic is comprised of a team of clinicians including cardiologists, nurse practitioners, nurse clinicians, as well as, our prevention research staff. New patients referred to the Prevention Clinic will be seen by Kamalesh Pillai, M.D.
