HYPERTROPHIC CARDIOMYOPATHY CLINIC

Cardiomyopathy refers to diseases of the heart muscle. These diseases have a variety of causes, symptoms and treatments. The more common types of cardiomyopathy are dilated, hypertrophic and restrictive.

Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a complex disease that causes an abnormal thickening of the heart muscle (most commonly involving the septum or muscular wall that separates the left and right ventricles). A thickened septum may cause a narrowing that can block or reduce the blood flow from the left ventricle to the aorta.

At St. Paul Heart Clinic, the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Clinic provides new and existing patients access to:

  • coordinated testing, risk assessment and initiation of medical treatment
  • assistance with the screening of family members if indicated
  • echocardiography and advanced cardiovascular imaging (cardiac CT and MRI)
  • electrophysiology services and sudden cardiac death risk evaluation
  • interventional cardiology
  • genetic counseling and testing
  • cardiac surgery

At St. Paul Heart Clinic, the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Clinic offers specialized care by clinicians with an interest and expertise in treating hypertrophic cardiomyopathy patients. New patients referred to the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Clinic will be seen by Akbar Khan, M.D. and Uma Valeti, M.D.
