Electrocardiogram
An electrocardiogram (also called an EKG or ECG) is a recording of the electrical activity in your heart. This procedure is painless and involves attaching several adhesive patches to your chest and side, which are connected by wires to a device that records and prints the information out on a strip of paper that your physician reviews. Your physician is looking for any changes or abnormal heart rhythms. In a stress EKG, this test is done before and after you undergo monitored physical exercise. In this case, your physician is looking to see how your heart reacts to the exercise and whether you have any abnormal heart rhythms.
